Named in honor of our long-time head coach, one of Mid-Michigan's oldest and most prestigious wrestling tournaments will be held Saturday January 17, 2009 at Williamston High School, Williamston, Michigan. The action will begin at 8:30am and run into the evening. Long known for the high level of competition, the Classic will feature many of the top ranked teams in Michigan and numerous individual returning state champions and placers.

This year's line-up will include: Airport, Belleville, Big Rapids, Brandon, Brother Rice, Central Montcalm, Corunna, Eastern, Dearborn Fordson, Fowlerville, Jackson Lumen Christi, Kent City, Leslie, Mason, New Boston Huron, Muskegon Orchard View, Pinconning, Plymouth, Southgate Anderson, St. Johns, Walled Lake Central, Webberville, Williamston, & Yale

The Jim Mooney Williamston Classic began in 1963, the first year that Jim coached in Williamston and continues today. We have little information about the early years of the tournament and no information about 1963 except that Williamston's Frank Casteel was the first hometown champion at 119 pounds. If you have any information about those early years please email us and we will update our records.
