Named in honor of our long-time head coach, one of Mid-Michigan's oldest and most prestigious wrestling tournaments was held on Saturday January 21, 2012 at Williamston High School, Williamston, Michigan. The action began at 8:30am and ran into the evening. Long known for the high level of competition, the Classic featured some of the top ranked teams in Michigan and numerous individual returning state champions and placers.

This year's line-up includes: Birch Run, Big Rapids, Corunna, Lansing Eastern, Lansing Everett, Flint Southwestern Academy, Grass Lake, Haslett, Jonesville, Leslie, Newaygo, New Boston Huron, New Lothrop, Lansing Sexton, St. Johns, Salem, Southgate-Anderson, Webberville, Williamston.

The Jim Mooney Williamston Classic began in 1963, the first year that Jim coached in Williamston and continues today. We have little information about the early years of the tournament and no information about 1963 except that Williamston's Frank Casteel was the first hometown champion at 119 pounds.
